Hurdling...

I went to the city on the weekend and left the security of my little house (and its healthy food choices).
I know I have to learn to blend my new 'healthy lifestyle' with whatever I do... but the temptation of cakes and fast food right in front of me was daunting. I want to stick strictly to my 1200 Calories and exercise in this first 12 weeks to get great results.

Hurdles are what I call the challenges faced in the outside world... cafes, shopping centres... even being away and finding time and a place to exercise. Some of the hurdles I faced on the weekend:

  • The drive to the city. Normally I'd scoff lollies and iced coffee in the car on the 2 hour drive, instead I opted for water, an apple and a skim flat white (and distracted myself with an audibook)
  • Sunday arvo 'drink' at the pub. I had diet coke and enjoyed every sip sitting out in the sunshine with my man :)
  • Sunday Dinner out at a restaurant. I chose an amazing sweet potato and beef salad. Loads of greens & balsamic dressing... it was delish! (I did notice a honey glazed Pork belly main dish that the 'old me' would have certainly ordered and I felt empowered that I could look past it).
  • Exercise. I found a park and did my long run early on Saturday morning. It was perfect!
  • Breakfast. It's hard to find low fat breaky out, so I took my weetbix with me and ate breaky in my hotel. Easy peasy.
So I guess the key to hurdle jumping is organisation. (oh and not freaking out).
It'll get easier and come 'naturally' eventually I guess.

MasterChef.. *cough

Okay its only day 4... but I can't believe how much I've cooked (AND enjoyed it!)
Anyone that knows me will vouch I'm a hazard in the kitchen, I'm queen of microwave dinners and instant food. I seem to have embraced the food prep in the nutrition plans and I'm really enjoying it.

Check out some of the results!

Michelle Bridges you may make a cook out of me yet!

So the eating so far has gone great.

The exercise is going well too but I'm hurting. I was so sore today that I ended up taking Nurofen. Getting up and down my stairs is a killer at the moment (not to mention getting my big butt down onto the loo).

This evenings workout was Toning... lunges, stairs, pushups, towel pulls, sumo squats, more sumo squats, more pushups and... BURPEES. Oh my freakin god. I'm too old to do Burpees!! Had to do as many as possible in 1 minute... I barely pushed out 16! That is pathetic! Thought I was going to barf...

Tomorrow and the weekend are my huge hurdle. I am heading to Canberra so will be away from the security of my kitchen and will be faced with temptation galore.

Must stay focussed...must stay focussed...must stay focussed...

Off and racing...

I'm excited!

I've started the Michelle Bridges 12 week challenge... it's my second attempt (last time I didn't even start -  I began doing pre-season then my focus went AWOL).
This time is different. Its day three and aside from the fact my butt is killing me from all the bloody squats & lunges I did yesterday, I'm feeling great. I've even been C O O K I N G! Woo hoo!

Please let this focus and motivation continue. I dearly want to complete this 12 weeks. Its time to look after myself and feel good about myself again. I will do this!
